So It Seems, 2021

Statement:

Memory is powerful, yet paradoxical. Fragmented and mutable, its pliability causes us to question the truthfulness of personal narratives and family mythologies. My assemblage sculptures are meditations on the nature of memory and how we construct stories about our lived experiences. By intertwining found and sculpted objects, I invite viewers to indulge in the human tendency to seek relationships between disparate elements. Each work includes figurative sculpture, such as busts or fragmented body parts, and these elements help construct narratives. I use pre-made items to evoke different time frames. Each viewer’s mind builds distinctive relationships among the objects. These individualized constructions mirror the plurality of truths embedded within a single memory.
